Preface
This is a report of a project to evolve a Process for designing a value chain. It is not itself a specification of the Process - that should be unconstrained by the size limits of this report - but sufficient of the Process is revealed to make sense of this report.

An earlier version of the Process existed, which I developed with considerable help from colleagues in ICL, especially Graham H Brown, Peter Wharton, Andy Kyte and John Bardgett.
The primary aim of this project was to develop this Process as a genuinely valuable management tool, suitable for prompting an individual to examine issues which may otherwise be overlooked, or for use within a workshop for gaining a consensus among people with different objectives and perceptions.
